Is Ford Turning back the Clock to the late 80's?

I can't help but wonder, with the latest leak about the Mustang, has Ford decided to get back to excitement?

Growing up we had a plethora of family autos. From a Beetle, an MGB, a Toyota Pickup, and a talking Maxima to a collection of domestic rides. A Taurus was in there, an Aerostar, Mercury Capri (a real one)and a 5.0 Mustang LX Notchback. As you can tell, as a general rule, on the Domestic side we were a Ford family. I've always liked Fords, and myself have owned a Mercury Sable, Ford Escape and Ford Focus.

I say all of this, because aside from the Mustang and the Edge, the Ford lineup of late bores the hell out of me. Then they gave birth to a reincarnation of the SHO. That's a name plate I was excited to see. Now it's been "leaked" that the 2011 Mustang will sport a 400+ HP 5.0L V-8. Again, that's an exciting nameplate I can get behind. At this point I'm waiting to hear about a 2 door Ford Fusion Turbo Coupe? Anyone? I think they successfully killed the T-Bird name with that last attempt. A Ford Fusion Coupe, with a Turbo 4? Could be fun.

This would complete an invoking of the 88/89 Ford Showroom excitement.

I like Ford, I like that they managed to keep themselves alive without Government takeover. Now I like that they are making a play at some enthusiast level cars again.

I want to see the 60mpg turbo diesel sold in Europe. I think it may be a Focus.

Never had a Ford and don't plan on it. Ford will come out on top of this busineess.

Did I mention I was a Chevy man.
